The Image Lab is a support class for the Image Core Studio. This class is paired with Pablo Medina class.

This is a description from the syllabus of Pablo Medina for the Image Core Studio from lst year:

This course is a hands-on investigation into the concepts and principles of two-dimensional visual organization that are fundamental to design for interactive, print and time-based media. Emphasis is on creative solutions to problems, critical awareness and development of a design vocabulary. Increasingly complex problems introduce the elements of visual composition, typography, color, image and will culminate in a final project based on student research and inquiry

This Lab will focus more on specific practical skills and fluency with Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign.

Assignments will be started in class and finished outside of class, and will complement the assignments that you get in your Image Studio class.

Course Goals:

Upon successful completion of this class, the student will have gained fluency in Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign. These skills will create a base from which students can go on to the other 2d design classes.

Grading:

20% – Attendance and Class Participation — a big part of this is providing constructive criticism of your fellow students work in critiques

80% – Weekly Assignments

Grading for Weekly Assignments:
10 excellent – the work not only is excellent on technical grounds but it is also inventive, unusually complex or creative or in some other way goes beyond the basic requirements.
9 average – the work is technically excellent but average in its conception or in what it attempts or it is unusually excellent in its aims but is somewhat average in execution technically.
8 acceptable - the work is average in both its execution and its conception. It satisfies all the requirements of the assignment but its nothing special.
0 not turned in or not acceptable.

Course Requirements:

* Come to class on time. Students arriving more than 20 minutes late may be marked absent.

* Attend all classes. Each week we will build on the work learned the week before. If you must miss a class, please let me know ahead of time. It is your responsibility to obtain any missed material from your fellow classmates, and to turn assignments in on time even if you are absent. Students missing more than three classes may fail the course.

* Turn in assignments on time. Work turned in late will lose one point (from a possible 10) every week that it is late. Final projects may not be turned in late.

* Ask Questions. This is a technical class, and we will be covering a lot of information in a short time. If you are confused, lost, need clarification, etc, please don’t hesitate to ask questions in class. Chance are your fellow students will benefit from the answers AND this will add to your class participation grade! I am also available between classes via e-mail. jay [at] early-adopter.com

* Academic Integrity. Plagiarism and cheating of any kind in the course of academic work will not be tolerated. Academic honesty includes accurate use of quotations, as well as appropriate and explicit citation of sources in instances of paraphrasing and describing ideas, or reporting on research findings or any aspect of the work of others (including that of instructors and other students). These standards of academic honesty and citation of sources apply to all forms of academic work (examinations, essays, theses, computer work, art and design work, oral presentations, and other projects).

Basically its fine to use other people’s ideas and images you just have to be completely up-front about it. You have to give credit explicitly to any source material for this class that means you have to provide links to it in your assignment posts.

* It is the responsibility of students to learn the procedures specific to their discipline for correctly and appropriately differentiating their own work from that of others. Compromising your academic integrity may lead to serious consequences, including (but not limited to) one or more of the following: failure of the assignment, failure of the course, academic warning, disciplinary probation, suspension from the university, or dismissal from the university.
